TIPS:
Google Homepage Themes
With Google Homepage, you can basically design a Web page just for yourself. You can put what you like on it and no one else will be able to have any say in the matter. To get started with your own Google Homepage, you will need a Google account. If you use any other Google programs (such as Gmail, etc.), you can use the same username and password for this, but if you don't have an account, you'll need to create one.

Once you have that done, visit www.google.com/ig  and sign in. Next, click on the Add Stuff link. This will take you to the area where you can choose what content you want to add to your page. There are several items to choose from too. On the left hand side, you'll see all the categories, such as news, tools, sports, lifestyle, new stuff, etc. Once you find something you want to add, just click on the Add it now button. You can add a weather forecaster, a calendar, a to do list, quotes of the day, jokes of the day, etc., etc., etc. There really is something for everyone!

Alright, when you have all the content added to your page that you want, you can then start on your theme. Click on the Back to homepage link at the very top of the page to get back to the main area. Click on the Select theme link and you will see seven different ones to choose from. There's of course, the classic theme, beach, bus stop, city scape, sweet dreams, tea house and seasonal scape.

1. Not all Link sites are the same
by Robert Nixon

A lot has been said and written about 'Link' sites, such a FFA's, classifieds and directories.

FFA's:
The best advice is to own one since the traffic to it will benefit your domain. Now, this is not the same as just getting on the internet and signing up for one, setting up the autoresponder and letting it fly on it's own. What I mean is to get the script installed on your domain server, get it listed with a couple of 'submitters' and THEN letting it fly. Traffic is the only reason to have one and you will soon learn that to expect any response to the autoresponder reply, let alone to any posting to other 'Link' sites is likely than winning your local state lottery.

Don't get me wrong, there are some quality sites that will do more for you by your linking to them in the mentioned categories. These are the 'Networked' ones, the ones with a longer duration period on keeping your posting on, and those with high PR ratings. You will very seldom find a real FFA type and Classifieds with a PR rating, but more and more of the Directories seem to be of a better quality and are getting PR's faster than many other posting to type of sites.

The traffic flow you will get from posting to a Networked FFA is good for a few days at most, so you will have to make a list of the producers and re-submit to them fairly often. When you have your own, then you will get your link showing to the sites of those that are posting to you. Don't count on anything here as far as quality, spam to these type of sites is rampant, I don't mean like e-mail spam, but those that post over and over using varying e-mail addresses to over come the limits most of us that own one set for posting. You see, those people REALLY think someone is going to go to an FFA site and click on their link. Let's face it, no one does that. Normally the only people that check out FFA listings are the owners.
My site has a limit of 700 as the max that will be listed at any given time. I purchased it and had it installed by the person I purchased it from and as part of this, the bugs were worked out at no additional charge. You can get the information for your own by visiting my links site.
My links site may be found at: http://www.cpucash.net/links.html

Classifieds: As far as I am concerned, most of these are the same as having an FFA, with few exceptions. The very title 'Classifieds' is miss-leading to most, but in results most are the same as any FFA. Here again, look for the 'Networked' ones and be sure to re-visit them on a regular basis. The best part about them, is that many will let you post for a longer time period, normally a month for free.

Submitting to the FFA's and Classifieds manually can be VERY time consuming, so I do advise that you spend some money on at least two paid auto submitters, so you can get some 'fast' traffic, make a list of those you can not use a submitter to post to, and do them manually ( you will see at these sites a box to enter a code in order to post, and some that will require you to await an e-mail confirmation before your site is listed).

You can get your very own Classified site for your domain also, but it will generally cost more than the FFA to purchase and have installed. IF you can afford it however, it would be a good thing to have in addition to your own FFA.

For a great list of FFA's and Classifieds all in one place I would advise you to go to my Free Stuff page and look for the 'Grandfather' Link. I use it all the time. The list is not up-dated as often as I would like, so you may find some sites that no longer exist, or have changed from being free to requiring link backs or payment only. But it is the best one of it's type I have found that has been around for a long period of time. If you choose to 'link back' pick those that are of a high quality and give them a try to see if doing so really helps your domain's rankings.

Directories:
I love them, they are really mini-search engines, but there seems to be more and more on the internet every day. Getting a list of them is the key. Find a list that shows the PR for the site and get yourself listed on those with the higher PR's that allow free submissions. I don't think the value of paying for a listing is worth it for the average 'home business' type. Who really uses a directory as a 'home page' for searching for things on the internet? On the plus side, if you do, pick one with the highest PR you can find. I have noticed that some of the major engines do show returns from these in their results, and the cost is normally less than paying for a spot with the majors.

Of all of them, you MUST get listed with DMOZ. Do it right away and wait for the long time it takes to be accepted. Here the key is to have a quality site of your own that is not just a 'sales' type of site for associate programs, let alone a 're-direct'. DMOZ has been around for many years now, is quite respected and is used by most, if not all of the major search engines for returns. A normal business has no problems getting listed but for the smaller and internet based only type, it will be a challenge, but well worth the effort.
Once again, go to my 'Free stuff' page and look for the Directories links.

Whichever type of links site you go for and get installed at your domain is determined by you, the cost and what you expect in return. Do not expect much in sales from them directly but benefit from getting into the results listings from the association with them, or having one. Once you have one, get it listed with as many submitters of that type as you can.

Conclusion:
It all boils down to your website. NO matter what you do, it must be a producer for you. Give the visitor what they are looking for and don't make it hard to get the product or service, once they are at your site. State the benefits, and what you can do to fill them, and what it will cost ( one time or one time plus ). If it is what they are looking for, and they can afford it, then you have made a sale.

2 Work At Home Opportunities - Ignore Failure
by Ken Shorey

Because failing at a task makes us sad with feelings of unworthiness, many people choose not to take any risk. These individuals live their lives in quiet desperation because they have such high aspirations for their lives. The problem is these individuals are paralyzed by fear, they can't live or do what they really want because they are afraid to fail.

But if we don't dare to dream and achieve, then nothing can be gained. Nothing happens. In spite of all the pep talks and the seminars, the fear of failure can be so strong and overwhelming that people become stagnant in a life that they do not want.

Starting a home-based business might seem easy to most people. But, for those who fear ridicule from family and friends, trying to start a home-based business is not an option. Some moments of failure follow us from the early years of our lives to adulthood.

Failures come in many colors and levels of intensity. There are some failures that are easy to get over. We can make a brilliant argument for the reason we did not jump in the lake with the other teenagers. We were the only that had common sense at 8 years of age.

We take pride in ourselves and our good sense. This type of failure allows us to explain our fear away while feeling good about the tasks that we did not accomplish.

But as we grow older, we must approach the working world from a different angle. Making excuses becomes our substitute for failure. We didn't apply for that senior management position because "its not our bag”. These excuses are not lost on co-workers. They know you didn't try because you were afraid you would not get the position.

Some failures that are viewed by others make us gag with embarrassment. This kind of failure is persistent and damaging to our self-image. When our co-workers watch us fall on our face during the high level presentation, there is a physical anguish that accompanies this failure.

The worst feeling of failure is when we do our best and still fall short of the goal. This failure is pervasive and sinister. But what the situation should do is make us try harder. We should never give up. Failure is not an option in the life of a home business owner. We might start to feel desperate and start planning how to make our exit from not only the room but this whole "life thing"

In Napoleon Hills famous and renowned work "Think & Grow Rich" there is a list of " 'The 30 Major Causes of Failure'. The only one that applies to the person reading this article is "Lack of ambition to Aim above the Mediocrity - The book states "We offer no hope for the person who is so indifferent as not to want to get ahead in life, and who is NOT willing to pay the price.

The price of success is the courage to ignore family and friend. The price is to try again and go through the intelligent selection process and find a home based business that will work for you. The price may be time. You may need time to get over the most recent failure and time to get back up and try again.

Don’t be tempted to stop your search to find your Shangri-La. Do not leave in the middle of the race for fear of failure. Whenever you feel distressed or overburdened by "fear" just focus on how wonderful success will feel. Close your eyes and envision, the car, the house, the faces of friends and family when you "Make it". Your fear can bring nothing but heartache. Your Success creates more success.

NEWS: US ranking slips in some IT fields

European countries and Singapore have surpassed the United States in their ability to exploit information and communication technology, according to a new survey.

The United States, which topped the World Economic Forum's "networked readiness index" in 2006, slipped to seventh. The study, out Wednesday, largely blamed increased political and corporate interference in the judicial system.

The index, which measures the range of factors that affect a country's ability to harness information technologies for economic competitiveness and development, also cited the United States' low rate of mobile telephone usage, a lack of government leadership in information technology and the low quality of math and science education.

But Thierry Geiger, one of the Forum's economists responsible for the 361-page report, said the U.S. market environment remains the best in the world in terms of how easy it is to set up a business, get loans and have access to market capital.

3. New Website Marketing Made Easy
By: Jason Martin

Often new website owners ask me how to get traffic to their new creation. Some have been known to stare at their computer in an attempt to will visitors to the site. The truth is, the Internet is evolving every second of every day. And with that, it becomes more difficult to establish a viable presence—or does it? Follow these easy steps and carve your slice of the cyber pie.

Step One: Preparation

Before going out to proclaim the glory that is your website, first make sure it’s in tiptop shape. Was your website carefully and professionally constructed? That includes content copy. It’s vital that your copy (the text on your website) be written well, including a logical flow, clarity, good sentence structure, wise word choices and proper grammar/punctuation. Studies reveal the average Internet visitor is getting more sophisticated and expects features, such as proper language use (whether English or another language). Fail in this area and you’ll lose business. It’s that plain and simple.

Now that your copy is humming, how is your search engine optimization? Did you at least look into some basics? Search Engine Optimization is the act of making your website search engine friendly and more likely to appear under the keyword phrases appealing to your targeted audience. While it can be a complex process, the basics should include having your pages search engine friendly, containing some keywords to attract your target audience. Once these two components are satisfactory, you’re ready for the next step.

Step Two: Links

Your website needs links. Today, even a simple link exchange can be complicated. Many website owners don’t want to reciprocate links with a new website. So how can you advance if you can’t get links? Thankfully, there are alternative solutions. When you’re first starting out, don’t spend too much time trying to find websites willing to link with you. Instead, work on establishing yourself first.

Today’s Internet world revolves around content. Website owners across the globe are just waiting for free content from people like you. So the best way to gain links to your website in bunches is by providing content to other websites—also known as “promotional articles.” These articles offer other website owners something of value. The result? Your new website receives many one-way links from other websites easily.

Naturally, your article needs to be written well to succeed. Simply throwing words down on paper doesn’t cut it. The better your article is written, the more it will appeal to website owners. In the end, you’ll glean more worldwide coverage, which is what you want. Not a writer? No problem. You can visit PromotionalArticles.com and have promotional articles professionally crafted for you. Simply slap your name on them and away you go. And even if you’ve written your own article, I strongly suggest using their editorial service. As every good writer knows, all writing should be professionally reviewed and polished by a savvy editor before publication.

Step Three: Promotional Articles & Repetition

If possible, you want to release a few promotional articles, at the very least. Timing is important. For example, if all you have is three articles currently, space their release. Don’t release them all at once. Promotional Articles can be fast acting. Yet, it really depends on the market the article is geared toward and how well it is written. I have seen my articles end up on other websites within hours of release.

Once released, the search engines will begin to pick up the fact your article is on other indexed websites. When this happens, your back links go up, which can continue for quite some time. Without a doubt, you’ll discover the process for releasing promotional article to the world quite simple. At my website, JasonAMartin.com, there is an article all about how to do this.

Step Four: Further Linking

Once you have allowed a little time to pass after step three, your website will begin to take hold. When it does, it’s time to seek solid links on other websites. Stick to websites that are either on the same topic or related. For example, if you owned a website that sold cheese, receiving a link from a website that sold motor oil wouldn't be beneficial. However, receiving a link from a website about cheese or wine would.

As time permits, search for smaller websites in your field, then see if they sell advertising on their front page for a small fee. For example, one night I found a website, which was set up decently in the search engines and was on the same topic as one of my websites. The site offered a homepage text link for $2 per week. I not only received a nice link to help my search engine status, but a possibility for highly targeted traffic as well. The Internet is full of on-topic websites for you to locate for potential profitability.

That’s a Wrap

By following this plan, you can significantly increase the staying power of your website. It really isn’t that complicated when you do things properly. “Is there more?” you ask. Sure. For instance, you can purchase traffic from trusted PPC sources. This and other techniques are discussed in various articles, which are all available at JasonAMartin.com. Once you master the art of opening a website properly, you’ll want to open up many more. Submit your articles to ContentTycoon.com.
